ITCs, hypermarkets, malls, plazas, town squares, factory outlets, junctions, mini markets, city centers and even a shopping town are springing up all around Jabodetabek. while the new ones are starting to encounter difficulties in renting the shop spaces, no less robust is the construction of new shopping centers. The developments is said to be killing the weaker and less attractive traditional markets.

First question:
I reckon in Jakarta alone, dwell more than 10 millions people, but do they really shop that much?

Second:
Say, the shopping rate is enough to support every single establishment, then there must be enough income circulating around which is owned by only 50% of the population (considering the claim that the other 50% is poor). Damn rich community we live in, right? Then why the economy still cannot rise?

A shame reality of the life we live in that a profitable investment could not come from parks and community centers...
