Entry: lecturer vs practitioner Friday, December 02, 2005

academic and business world each has very different contrary idealisms, two sides that are not supposed to walk on the same path together. however, money still makes the world (and education) go around and with such minimum support from the government (give us that 20% budget you bloody Volvo riders!!) plus the so called social obligation to provide afordable higher education, what can an institution do other than making the most out of opportunities ahead ?

in my particular faculty, it has started to suck the hell out. aside from the effort to differentiate the education and business bodies apart (FA and PU with the same ending letters), the players on both institutions remain the same. a terrible sacrifice to the students and research development. even the rumors on the agreement to put class session first does not help much. there are still the lack of feedbacks, the lack of consultation time especially those acting as academic counsellor (so much for counselling), late grading and so on.

if there must be a business entity backing up the education activity, why not take pure, full-time professionals to run it?

well, alright.. some names are better known and trusted than other. even some occasional consultation job from academic perspective will also be fine, but honestly... at this level... it's just too much.

i had tried to understand. i really did.
i know projects will take up much of someone's time a lot, so i submitted my report early so there should be enough time for him to read it. i even submitted the drafts earlier while most of the others have not even finished or made their reports yet. guess what? with the deadline of the submission to the faculty getting nearer, my report has been handed to an assistant...

not in any intention to disregard the assistant's capability, but it's a bloody internship report! it's not some kind of assignment that can be marked by an assistant!!

*exasperated*

*sigh* who am i kidding? many others even having trouble getting in touch with their counsellors...

...and they said they want this institution to prevail...
who are you guys kidding, really?
